AntiViral Toolkit Pro 3.0

AntiViral Toolkit Pro (AVP) is an Australian product. The program installs two icons into the taskbar tray -- one for the AVP Control Center and the other for the Monitor. The Control Center, not surprisingly, centralises options and tasks. It looks clean and unintimidating, but is rather cryptic at first. Once you figure out that right-clicking activates tasks while double-clicking lets you change options, you'll be fine, but it's certainly not an intuitive approach. The Control Center provides access to standard scans and you can add and configure your own, including online and network-based scans. You can also schedule scans to run automatically.AVP was one of two programs that failed to catch all the viruses during a general scan. The Monitor, which watches while you work and intercepts actions involving suspect files, managed to catch all the files that the main scan missed. The Monitor is certainly very aggressive - it even alerts you when you simply open a folder containing a suspect file. But it may end up driving you nuts: the alert dialog provides no way to clean or delete an infection and when you click the OK button to dismiss it, it keeps popping up. I eventually turned monitoring off to save my sanity.AVP offers adequate protection, but it has some work to do to catch up with the leaders.
